Erg Chigaga sahara dunes is a much younger and less-frequented destination. Erg chegaga dunes are in the southeast of Marrakech, towards the Algerian border and they’re located over 60 kilometers away from the nearest town Mhamid. The desert is somehow more vaste and wild here. Those opting for an Erg Chigaga desert tour should expect a rustic experience, without access to nearby hotels. This desert tour requires at least 3 days of travel through Ait Benhaddou, Draa valley palm groves and a rocky desert landscape before reaching the sahara dunes. The Erg chigaga desert tour is fascinating, the sahara desert trip that offer you the opportunity to ride a camel, climb sahara dunes, run the cinnamon-and-sugar sand grains through your fingers, admire picturesque views and sleep in tents or under the stars.
The other sahara dunes are Erg Chebbi dunes in Merzouga. Erg Chebbi dunes are more popular and reach a height of up to 150 meters in places and altogether span over an area of 50 kilometers. Hotels align on the edge of the desert, giving travelers the option of spending the night in the comfort of a traditional hotel room or in a luxury camp and then exploring the Merzouga desert and its surrounding by day.
Day 1
You will be picked up from your hotel/riad around 08.00 am. On the way to the mountain area will we pass interesting sites and landscapes. After 2 hours drive will we reach Tizi N’tichka, where we will cross the High Atlas Mountains. On this outstanding tour will you enjoy the flourished valleys and the authentic Berber villages. Lunch will be served in Foum Zguid “the gate to Sahara”. After lunch will we reach the golden sand dunes of Erg Chegaga, where we will enjoy the beautiful sunset.
Day 2
After enjoying the beautiful sunrise, the breakfast served in the luxury camp. You will have a day filled with desert exploration. We will by camel explore interesting parts of the desert; we will ride camels to a small oasis where we will visit a nomad family. The lunch will be enjoyed with the nomad family under their tent shelter, and here is a good opportunity to learn more about the nomad culture, language and traditions. In the late afternoon, we will ride back to the camp, where you will enjoy dinner and local entertainment.
Day 3
After breakfast at the luxury camp, will we leave the camp, and drive towards Marrakech, after a few hours of drive will we reach the historic village of Tamgroute, where we will visit the old Kasbah. Then we will drive through the Draa valley and Agdz to discover the hidden treasures of the Southern region and continue to Ouarzazate, where we will enjoy lunch at the Kasbah Taourirt. In the afternoon we will drive back to Marrakech through the High Atlas Mountains, on the way we will make a stop in Ait ben Haddou for a short visit. We will be back in Marrakech around 06:00 pm.
